Executive Board Members

teresaPresident, Teresa Enriquez received her Juris Doctor Degree in May 1995 from the University of Miami School of Law, where she was active on Moot Court Board. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State University in May 1992. In 1995, she joined the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office and has represented thousands of indigent clients charged with offenses across the spectrum of Florida’s penal code, from relatively minor misdemeanors offenses to capital felonies. In 2011, the Miami Chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers awarded her The Rodney Thaxton “Against All Odds” Award for her work on the defense team of the highly publicized “Baby Lollipops” case. The Greater Miami Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union awarded her the C. Clyde Atkins Civil Liberties Award for her work on behalf of those facing the death penalty. In 2014, Teresa was appointed to the ABA’s Special Committee for Legal Aid and Indigent Defense, where she advocates for indigent defense issues nationally. In 2015, the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Foundation honored her with their “Distinguished Honoree” award, in recognition of her dedicated service to the Miami-Dade community. Teresa is on the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. and is President of Do the Right Thing, Inc. Her proudest accomplishment is training lawyers to vigorously defend marginalized people. Currently the Public Defender’s Chief Assistant for the County Court division, Teresa recently celebrated 20 years dedicated to ensuring equal access to justice for all. When not at work, she co-parents her four children with the love of her life, Michael.
brianVice President, Brian Kirlew began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender at the Miami-Dade Public Defenders office. He received his law degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida. During law school, Brian pursued his passion in litigation and criminal defense. He won the prestigious Feinreder Moot Court Competition finishing 1st out of 100+ students. Brian competed on five interscholastic Moot Court and Mock Trial teams in Orlando, New York City, Washington D.C. and San Diego. During his last semester of law school, Brian was a certified legal intern at the Miami-Dade Public Defenders office where he participated in two felony jury trials. Brian was recognized for excellence in the art of courtroom advocacy with the prestigious Order of the Barrister designation at his law school graduation. After law school, Brian became an Assistant Public Defender in Miami and worked in that capacity for six years. FACDL recognized his tenacity and dedication by awarding him the Gregg Wenzel Outstanding Young Lawyer in 2012. After leaving the public defender’s office, Brian opened the Kirlew Law Firm where he continues to practice criminal defense in state and federal court. Brian is also a proud member of the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel for Miami-Dade County where he continues to represent indigent clients in felony court. Brian has previously served as FACDL-Miami’s Young Lawyers Committee Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. He is also a member of the Dade County Bar Association and the Statewide Chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

margotImmediate-Past President, Margot Moss is a member of FACDL and FACDL-Miami. She also practices as a partner at Markus/Moss PLLC in Miami, Florida with David O. Markus, Mona Markus, and Robin Kaplan. An experienced trial attorney, Margot concentrates her practice on white collar criminal defense in state and federal courts. Prior to joining Markus & Markus, Margot was a partner at Fowler White Burnett, P.A. in their White-Collar Criminal Department; and previously worked for over ten years at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office where she tried over 100 cases and was responsible for teaching trial techniques to junior attorneys. She has authored four articles on various criminal topics, lectured on multiple criminal issues, and taught as a faculty member at the Gerald T. Bennett Prosecutor/Public Defender Trial Training Program in Gainesville, Florida. Margot’s other professional involvement includes the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc.; former Vice President, Treasurer, and Director at Large for the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida; and Member of the Criminal Courts Committee for the Dade County Bar Association. She has contributed to her community by handling multiple pro bono cases for the Ensuring Equal Justice Initiative (as a Special Assistant Public Defender) and Lawyers for Children America. Margot graduated, cum laude, from the Temple University School of Law in 1996 where she served as Executive Editor of the Temple Political & Civil Rights Law Review. She is a member of the Florida and North Carolina Bars.
